Morning News
The news that matter for your work. Customizable sources, the way you want them.
Optional: This exercise requires Slack MCP for channel-based news sources. If you don't have Slack MCP available, you can still create a news skill using only web sources. Adjust the prompt below to remove Slack channel references.
Prerequisite
You need to have completed TC4 (my_persona) — the persona is used to know which topics to filter based on your role.
What will happen
You will create a skill that delivers a curated news digest every morning. You choose your own sources — news sites, Slack channels, specific topics. No Slack briefing, no calendar — pure news.
Step 1 — Choose your sources
Before creating the skill, decide which sources you want to follow. Here are some examples:
| Source | Type | Example topics |
|---|---|---|
| The Economist | Web | Global business, geopolitics |
| TechCrunch | Web | Tech, startups, AI |
| Bloomberg | Web | Markets, finance, economy |
| [Add your own] | Web/Slack | [Your topics] |
Add or remove sources in the prompt below before pasting. The more specific, the better the result.
Step 2 — Create the skill
Open a new conversation in ToqanClaw (click the +) and paste:
I want to create a skill called "my_morning_news".
Use my_persona to understand my role and priorities
so you can filter what's relevant.
This skill delivers a CURATED NEWS DIGEST every morning.
NEWS SOURCES (customize these):
- Web: The Economist, TechCrunch, Bloomberg
- Topics: [add your specific topics here]
WHAT TO DO:
1. Search the web for latest news (last 24 hours) from
my sources above
2. Filter for relevance to my role (from my_persona)
3. For each item:
- One-line headline
- Why it matters for my work
- Source name
- Risk or opportunity flag (red/green)
4. Max 7-10 items, prioritize by relevance to my role
OUTPUT FORMAT:
Post to my Slack DM:
Morning News — {date}
HIGHLIGHTS
1. {headline} — {why it matters} [{source}] {red/green}
2. ...
TO KEEP AN EYE ON
{emerging trends or topics to watch}
Save this as a skill.
Step 3 — Test
Run my_morning_news now.
Step 4 — Schedule
Schedule my_morning_news to run every weekday at 8:15 AM
(local time).
Tip — Customize your sources
You can update the skill at any time to add or remove sources. Change the sites, swap the topics. The more specific you are — for example, "AI adoption in enterprise" instead of just "AI" — the better the filter and the more relevant the result. Run
/my_morning_newsto test your changes.
