Morning Briefing

Your day organized before coffee. Calendar, Slack, and pending items — all in one post.

Optional: This exercise requires Slack MCP. If you don't have Slack MCP available, you can still create a simplified version using only Google Calendar data. Adjust the prompt below to remove Slack-specific sections.

Prerequisite

You need to have completed TC3 (MCPs connected) and TC4 (my_persona created). The briefing uses your persona to know who your VIPs are, which channels to monitor, and what tone to write in.

What will happen

You will create a skill that every morning organizes your internal day: calendar, mentions and DMs in Slack, messages from VIPs, and pending items from previous days. No external news — that's for another skill. The focus here is you starting the day knowing exactly what awaits you.

Step 1 — Create the skill

Open a new conversation in ToqanClaw (click the +) and paste:

I want to create a skill called "my_morning_briefing".

Use my_persona to understand who I am, my priorities,
my VIPs, my important channels, and my communication style.

This skill organizes my INTERNAL day every morning:

1. CALENDAR
- Read my Google Calendar for today
- List meetings with times, attendees, and flag any needing prep
- Highlight back-to-back meetings or conflicts

2. SLACK — ACTION REQUIRED
- Scan DMs and mentions from my VIPs (ALWAYS high priority)
- Threads where I was tagged but haven't replied
- Messages that need a response or decision from me

3. SLACK — FYI
- Activity in my important channels (from my_persona)
- Key updates I should be aware of but don't need to act on

4. PENDING FROM YESTERDAY
- Cross-reference previous briefings for unresolved items
- Flag anything that's been pending for more than 1 day

OUTPUT FORMAT:
Post to my Slack DM in this format:

Morning Briefing — {date}

MY DAY
{calendar summary — meetings, prep flags, conflicts}

ACTION REQUIRED
{VIP messages, unread mentions, pending decisions}

FYI
{channel updates, informational items}

PENDING
{items still open from previous days}

Good morning!

Save this as a skill.

ToqanClaw will ask where you want to receive the post. It can be a personal channel or your own DM.

Step 2 — Test now

In the same conversation, ask:

Run my_morning_briefing now.

You should receive a complete post with a summary of your day. Review:

  • Are the VIPs correct? (They came from your persona)
  • Are the channels the ones that matter?
  • Are the calendar meetings correct?
  • Does the tone match you?

If something is wrong, adjust my_persona first — the briefing pulls from there.

Step 3 — Schedule to run every morning

Schedule my_morning_briefing to run automatically
every weekday at 8:00 AM (local time).
The post should be ready and waiting when I
open Slack — no need to ask for it.
What is a Scheduled Session?

Scheduled Sessions are ToqanClaw's silent superpower. Any skill can be scheduled to run automatically — without you needing to open the app and ask. Start with the morning briefing, then add more (morning news, evening briefing, weekly recap, meeting prep).

Why separate briefing from news

The briefing is your internal day — Slack, calendar, pending items. Things that require you to act. The news is the external world — headlines, trends, market movements. Things for you to know.

Separating the two keeps each skill focused and allows scheduling at different times. The briefing arrives at 8 AM for you to plan your day. The news can arrive a bit later, when you already have your coffee in hand.
